1. What aspects of the UI are consistent?
- Recognition rather than recall: same as consistency and standards we’ll be using recognizable buttons and graphics popularized by social media giants
- Help and documentation: again, we did not plan on having this on our app, but we will create a resource page for users in case they need help or have questions
- Android-Simplify My Life: The idea to keep it brief and pictures are faster than words make perfect sense to a mobile user. The design makes people to get the message easily. They do not to spend the time on reading long sentences, and they can easily get the idea from the picture as well as some simple words. Also, the idea “decide for me but let me have the final say” is similar to the user control in Apple, or even better.
Our user interface will incorporate consistent layout functions across all pages, creating unity and cohesiveness within our app. This includes consistent colors, typefaces, logos, and navigations. Our goal for every page of the app to feel subconsciously consistent to the user through every step of the experience.

2. Are aspects that need to be different really different?
We want to ensure that each page has enough contrast so that the user is never confused as to how to navigate through the app (where they are in the app), yet similar enough across each aspect to create a consistent environment for the user.

3. Is like content & navigation properly grouped/close together?
Through the use of consistent content like navigation bars, users will always know where to locate the tools that will allow them to navigate the app conveniently and efficiently. These navigation tools, whether bars or icons, will easily identifiable and consistent across each page, to allow flexible and consistent control by the user.

4. How many alignment axes do you have on a typical page? Is this adequate?
The goal of a mobile app is to provide a clean, minimalist alternative to a website that allows for simple, efficient use across multiple platforms while on-the-go. Therefore, app alignment should also be minimal, although still functionally appropriate. Our app will utilize two axes for the navigation bars, and will follow a careful, yet simple grid system for the content, to allow for a user experience that is both aesthetically pleasing and intuitive.

Identify and describe 5 ways your current design is following best practices
- Visibility of system status: we’ll be keeping users informed at all times by letting them know what page they are in the app
- Match between system and the real world: we’ll be using very simple language so that the regular person could understand the site
- User control and freedom: we’ll have a back button, a home button and a search function so that users can get to where they need to get to
- Consistency and standards: we’ll be using popular and easily recognizable buttons/graphics already utilized by social networking giants like LinkedIn and Facebook
- Aesthetic and minimalist design: we will only include information that is relevant; there will be no extraneous text or graphics
- Flexibility and efficiency of use: we currently have not planned to use accelerators and will probably not be using on the mobile platform, as accelerators are best used for the online space
- Help users recognize, diagnose, and recover from errors: we have not planned on letting users know when they are conducting an error but after reading this article, we will plan on implementing an error message with incorrect log-in information and if they do not check the box during the registration that says they agree to our terms and conditions
Modern UI Best Practices
Identify and describe 3 ways you are following Android or Apple best practice
- Apple-Direct Manipulation: To directly manipulate onscreen objects make it easier to use the app and can make people get more involved into the task. The function to expand or contract the area is really helpful. Apple product also sensor the gestures to manipulate the screen, and also sensor the direction to adjust the screen by auto rotations. All these direct manipulation improves convenience.
- Apple-User Control: By warning people with the consequences of their following actions and give them choice to either change the settings or continue with the action. It helps a lot to avoid the unwanted outcomes, and it is necessary to get people involved into these decisions personally rather than let the apps make the decision. No matter how good the app is, its ability to make rational decisions for different people in different situations is limited. To protect the personal privacy better, user control is necessary.
